Laboratory analysis and ray visualization of diffractive optics with enhanced intermediate vision

Abstract Background To assess the optical behavior of a new diffractive intraocular lens (IOL) and compare its performance to that an established extended-depth-of-focus (EDOF) IOL. Methods This study assessed Proming EDOF Multifocal AM2UX [Eyebright Medical Technology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., China] AT LARA 829MP [Carl Zeiss Meditec, Germany]. An experimental set-up with 0.01% fluorescein solution monochromatic light (532 nm) was used visualize IOLs’ ray propagation. In addition, quality IOLs by measuring modulation transfer function (MTF) values at 50lp/mm 3.0 4.5 mm apertures on bench OptiSpheric® IOL PRO II [Trioptics GmbH, Results The propagation two showed distinct foci. Light intensity assessment revealed both allocate more energy primary than secondary focus. At pupil, MTF for focus were 0.39 0.37, focus, 0.29 0.26 IOLs, respectively. single-frequency 0.51 0.24 0.21 0.15 Conclusions When tested aberration-free model cornea under conditions, behaved as low-add bifocal lens; however, properties did not differ much from well-established outperformed low defocus (up 2D), while latter demonstrated better image in 2-3D range.
